Bucky, TWS wasn't trying to kill Steve

Here's the thing: The Winter Soldier wasn't trying to kill Steve on the helicarrier, not really.

He was shooting at Steve's abdomen, where even most totally normal people can survive getting shot, nevermind genetically enhanced super-soldiers. The World's #1 Super-Assassin and expert sniper can't manage to shoot someone in the head or heart at like 10 feet?

So I think Bucky must've been fighting the programming pretty hard at that point. He was still at least partly under Hydra's control, because he was fighting Steve and trying to stop him, but something had taken "kill Captain America" off the table.

So, I'd like to see a fic where this comes up. Maybe Bucky is recovering and gets caught up in guilt and depression over shooting Steve and Steve explains this to him. Maybe the crew are trying to find Bucky and Steve explains it to them. Maybe Bucky's explaining to someone else.

RTYI, maybe? The focus of the fic's something else, but the final chapter deals with this scenario somewhat:

I like this prompt, but there is something I think should be pointed out for medical reasons: a shot to the abdomen is extremely dangerous as damage to the intestine can leak toxins into the bloodstream. It's actually considered the worst place to be shot as it is not only deadly, but it's a slow and painful death.

That said, the prompt still works since WS was aiming at Steve from behind, where there could be at least some hope that his back muscles would offer some protection.
