Steve's the scrawny, sickly guy with the heart of gold. Bucky's got this gift (curse?) where he only sees whether a person is beautiful on the inside. And Steve is the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. Pre-war or modern day AU is fine, and if you want to throw Erskine and/or the serum in their at the end that's ok.
