"You heard all that, didn't you?"

"Yes. ...You said I'm broken."

"I did, yeah, but not the way I think that you think I meant."

"What way do I think you meant?"

"Broken, like a glass that shatters when you drop it on the floor, and some of the pieces disappear under the stove or the fridge and you can't glue it back together."

"What other way is there to be broken?"

"I meant, broken like a bone. Fractured. But nothing that can't be healed with a good support brace and some time. Maybe you'll need some doctors, some medicine. Maybe you'll need to use a crutch for a while. It's painful and awkward and the simplest things became a chore and you have to relearn how to go through daily life, but it's nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about. Everybody breaks a bone at least once in their life. Yours is just harder to heal because it's been broken for seventy years."
