Bucky/Skinny!Steve - Never Met Before (Skinny! Steve and The Avengers)

In this AU, Steve has never met Bucky.

In 1944, the army get desperate enough to take Skinny! Steve in the army. Months later, Steve ends up alone in the French Alps, the only one who managed to not only escape but survive when his unit was attacked by enemy soldiers. He eventually loose consciousness and freeze from the cold.

In 2010, a team of mountain climbers finds his body perfectly preserved. The body is given to scientists who carefully melt the ice to study it. They soon find that the boy in the ice is alive.

As Steve is an american soldier and as they have some knowledge on dealing with people out of time, SHIELD is called to deal with this.
They try to ease Steve into the future the same ways they did in MCU canon and it goes about as badly (except that Skinny!Steve can't run through a wall).
Director Fury then explain to Steve what happened and make him a proposition : Steve allows SHIELD to make some experiment on him to see how he survived and they'll help him to settle in the 21th century by giving him a job as a SHIELD agent, some history lessons, an apartment, a really good health insurance (which he desperately need) ...
Steve accepts.

He is introduced to Bucky Barnes, or The Winter Soldier who ,like Steve, is from the 40s and was frozen (albeit with interruptions) until not long ago. Steve's also quickly introduced to The Avengers since they all live in the same place.

Bucky isn't really happy about having to help Steve at first because he has enough problems on his own really and he isn't a social person (anymore).
He doesn't want some kid trying to bond with him because they're both from the 40s so he's initially pretty rude and he even tries to scare Steve by telling him exactly what he did as The Winter Soldier. But Steve is stubborn, and Bucky end up actually liking him. The thing is, he believes that Steve is way too good for him.

Meanwhile Steve got a crush on Bucky pretty much since they met but he's used to people not having any interest in him and doesn't even try.

Then some random evil aliens attack New York, and Steve is taken hostage. Bucky is terrified for him. Steve not only keep his cool but manages to think of a plan and (once Stark link him to the comm) command The Avengers so effectively that the crisis is over in under an hour with minimum damage. Fury is impressed and give him the job of managing the band of superheroes from now on. Bucky get the incentive to finally ask Steve on a date ... and Steve get the nickname Captain from Tony.


(As for how Steve survived, it's up to you. He might be a mutant or maybe he was experimented on by HYDRA during the war ...)
