I second the question below, and I also had an idea for this -- he figures he's about to go die in the war so he oughta do something useful and make sure Steve gets healthy: his soul for Steve's illnesses and frailty to be taken away.

Lo and behold, Steve meets Erskine and becomes Captain America. *hands* No idea about the rest.

Oh God, in that 'verse, imagine Bucky not even fighting the bad guys after the fall because he realizes too late what's actually happening. He thinks he died and has gone to hell, he's done it for Steve and he'll stand by the deal he's made.

FUCK. Him not fighting Hydra/Red Room because he thinks it's Hell come to collect HAD NOT EVEN OCCURRED TO ME. Well.

I have a busy day ahead, and entirely too much to do, and entirely too many fics already on-going, but... I may have to write something for this now.
