Bucky has Giovannini Mirror Syndrome

(Anonymous) 2014-04-22 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Giovannini Mirror Syndrome is thought to be because someone has incured severe brain damage, causing no understanding of the person's self to be retained. Therefore they use other people's moral compass and ideals to form a basis for themselves."

Bucky becomes what people around him need. Hydra needed an assassin (maybe a whore at times) so he became one. Steve needs his best friend, he becomes Bucky.

But really he isn't anything. He has no sense of self.

Coming in Pants Steve/Bucky

(Anonymous) 2014-04-22 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
The Winter Soldier wasn't allowed pleasure. The first (or first couple) time(s) Steve tries anything with him he comes too early.

He's embarrassed but Steve thinks it's really flattering.

Based off of Bucky's whole flashback sequence, I need something about Steve learning about the fact that Bucky was clearly conscious when HYDRA amputated the rest of his arm. I need angst over this because that was the most disturbing part of it all to me, that he was remembering them cutting into his arm.

Winter Soldier/any, rough sex, possible dub-con

(Anonymous) 2014-04-22 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
The Winter Soldier is slowly becoming a person again and that means his sex drive is firing up. Someone propositions him and he accepts. Problem is he's acting solely on animal instinct. He fucks the hell out of the person and ends up scaring them.

[Gen?] AU: Steve and the Red Skull Switch Bodies

(Anonymous) 2014-04-22 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
When the Red Skull grabs the cube at the end of The First Avenger, it switches his consciousness with Steve's. The plane goes down in the ice with both still on-board.

I just want to see some good old 'getting used to a body that isn't yours' or 'mistaken identity' shenanigans.

Bonus for: If it's not resolved, how does it affect the events of The Avengers or TWS?

Winter Solider tries and failes to be Bucky.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-23 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Winter solider acts like Bucky because he thinks that's what Steve wants from him.

Only the Winter Solider doesn't feel human, not yet, and he doesn't know how to act human. But that's what Steve wants so he tries. He memorizes facts about Bucky and the Howling Commandos from the Smithsonian exhibit and online.

He parrots these facts back to Steve like he is giving a mission report and tries to act like he's recalling a memory.

Winter Soldier to the Rescue!

(Anonymous) 2014-04-23 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
So, remember in The Land Before Time when Sara the triceratops had stalked off on her own and the rest of the gang was fighting the T-Rex and were so close to dropping a boulder on his head but couldn't quite push it? And then Sara comes charging back and throws herself against the rock and its just the push they needed to defeat the T-Rex? Something like that with the Captain America and the Winter Soldier.

So basically the Avengers are all fighting something and they're just shy of defeating it but the tide just won't turn their way? And then Bucky/the Winter Soldier comes charging in to help them. Because when it comes down to it, he'd never let Steve down when he needs help.

yessss I need this like burning

The Ghost of Bucky Barnes

(Anonymous) 2014-04-23 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
After saving Steve and abandoning his mission, the Winter Soldier finds himself dogged everywhere he goes by a man in decades-old fatigues with a face that's eerily familiar. A man only the soldier can see and hear. This man won't leave him alone but keeps insisting that he do better, be better, fight the powers that made such an unspeakable weapon and stay with Steve til the end of the line.

Parallel Universes

(Anonymous) 2014-04-23 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
In universe one Bucky really died in the fall from the bridge and Steve, while totally broken by the loss, soldiers on and ends the war.

In universe two Steve dies of his illnesses as a young man. Bucky is devastated by the loss and the only thing giving him any purpose anymore is fighting the war in Steve's memory. The serum is given to someone else and that "Captain America" turns out to be a great fighter, but also a power-hungry bully. Unfortunately, there's no one strong enough to stop him until The Powers That Be realize what they need is a different Captain America.

Through some hand-wavey wormhole they arrange to send someone to the first universe to ask for help from the other Captain America. And since there's nothing Bucky hates more than a bully, he volunteers for the job. Cue Bucky-who-lost-Steve and Steve-who-lost-Bucky meeting and teaming to take down Evil Captain America. Either ER or first time is fine, and angst over if someone can stay in the wrong universe. And a (semi)mandatory jaw-dropping scene when Bucky meets post-serum Steve.

(au)The Winter Soldier is Stark Industries property

(Anonymous) 2014-04-23 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Bucky falls and the Russians still fine him and start the Winter Soldier project, but somehow he falls into Howard Starks hands (maybe Howard's death was meant to be his first mission?) Either way,he bumbles and Howard keeps him,and manages to break through some of the brain washing, but now all of it.He can't stop Bucky from being a good, perfect (and sometimes blank) Soldier.

So he keeps him as a never aging, never exhausted, body guard. And it stays like this for years. And hes become a body guard(and reluctant) playmate to a young Tony.

Fast forward to the battle of New York,a chitauri soldier gets too close to Tony, none of the other Avengers can get to him in time, when shots are fired and this quick as lightning shadow comes out of no where and takes the enemy down, while dispatching a few others.

After the battle is over,Tony proudly introduces his long time guardian to the others.

Steve wheedles him to take the mask off.

Chaos and feels ensue

tl;dr : Winter Soldier is the Starks charge/guardian/friend/pet and protects Tony like hes a precious baby.

Everybody's watching me

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I am not one hundred percent happy with this. Tony feels a bit OOC to me and this isn't exactly what you asked, but I still hope you like it.

“They're dead,” Tony tells Bucky, with a glass of scotch in one hand and he doesn't like the taste of it, not really, but it makes his thoughts slow down, just a little bit, and for that he'll keep drinking and maybe one day he'll even like it.

“I know,” Bucky answers and Tony likes how he doesn't say “I'm sorry” like everyone else has.

“He shouldn't have been driving. He was over 80, for crying out loud! What the hell was he thinking?” Tony says and he doesn't blame his father, not really, but his anger needs to be directed at someone.

“I know,” Bucky answers again and for just one second Tony sees red and he gets up and goes to the balcony, knowing that if he stays he'll say something he'll regret.

Bucky doesn't follow him. Tony takes a gulp of his drink and breathes in the cold air of a normal New York morning. Normal for most, anyway. When he decides he won't start shouting horrible things at one of the few people that actually care about him, he goes back inside.

“What am I going to do now? Obie told me he would look after the company until I felt ready, but what if I never feel ready?” He's not usually so honest, not about his insecurities. Usually he'll talk about them in the mist of so much irony and sarcasm that it will be lost, but Bucky... Bucky is special. He's his protector. His guardian angel.

He sees a look crossing Bucky's eyes when he mentions Obie and he knows the two of them never got along and even after all these years he doesn't know the reason, and usually he asks about it, but not today.

“Then you'll find something else to do. You're a genius, Tony. You can do more than built weapons.”

“You once told me you first saw my father at a Stark Expo. He was introducing a flying car. When do you think he gave up those dreams for weapons?”

“I don't know, Tony. The war... it changed us all.”

“So he thought that building weapons was the way to go? I just... call me a dreamer but I hope to one day live in a world free of weapons.”

“Maybe that is a dream, but it's not one you should give up on. It's your life, Tony. Not your father's, not Obie's, not mine, not anybody else but yours. Choose for yourself, not for others.”

Tony nods and for just one second he thinks about selling the company. No, not just selling it. Destroying it. He would loose his fortune but like Bucky said, he's a genius. He can built another company. A better one. One without so much blood.

Then he looks at the portrait of his parents hanging on the wall and he knows that he won't do it. It is his life, but it's also his legacy and he's not sure he's able to tell them apart.

“This is Bucky. Bucky, meet my son, Tony.”

The man, Bucky, has a metal arm and Tony is immediately grabbing at it. His father tries to pull him away, apologizing to the other man but he's laughing, saying it's ok and making a joke about it running in the family that will go right through Tony's head because he's four and the only thing he cares about is that there's a man with a metal arm in front of him.

“Are you a robot?”

The man, Bucky, laughs once again, and Tony thinks that it's a sad laugh, because even though the mouth is laughing, his eyes aren't. Tony doesn't think they ever did. “No, I'm not a robot.”

“Then why do you have a metal arm?”

“Well...” Bucky looks at Tony's father and then crouches down, until he's at Tony's eyes level. “I had an accident. I lost my real arm. This one is like a substitute.”

Tony is silent for some seconds, pondering on this information.

“Did it hurt?”

Bucky hesitates a second. “Yes.”

“Does it still hurt?”

“Good,” Tony says and grabs his metal arm once again, this time without being stopped.

Tony wants the pain to stop. There's only one thought that makes him endure it and that is “Bucky is coming. Bucky is going to save me.”

So, he survives the pain and more than that, he makes something with it. He survives and he builds a metal man, all the while joking inside his head about how him and Bucky now match. A substitute arm and a heart.

Bucky never comes, but Tony knows he's looking for him and he wants to wait, but at the same time he remembers his father saying “there's no one you can trust but yourself, Tony” and when he sees a chance he grabs it.

Yinsen dies but it was his choice and the least Tony owed him was the acceptance of his decision.

He leaves the hellhole and the suit is destroyed, and he can feel himself going weaker but it's okay because Bucky is looking, and he already saved himself, now he only needs to be picked up.

He sees a helicopter and he laughs.

Tony knew he would come.

“His name is James. But I call him Rhodey.”

“Does he like it?” Bucky asks with a smirk which Tony answers with one of his own.

“It's growing on him.”

Bucky laughs and Tony thinks “it finally reaches his eyes” and he has no idea where the hell that came from.

It's his tenth birthday party and not a single guest is his age and it's not fair. It's Tony's birthday, so why isn't it his party?

His mom said it was because his father was an important man, that their family had responsibilities, and so on. Tony stopped listening when he realized what it meant. It meant he would never be just like any other boy. He was never going to have a normal birthday party and it wasn't fair.

“What's wrong, little man?”

Tony looks up and Bucky is there and he looks uncomfortable. He's wearing a suit with white gloves and Tony knows that he doesn't like it when people stare at his arm. Tony doesn't think he would like it either.

“Nothing,” he mumbles. Bucky always treats him like an adult, and he doesn't want him to know that he's upset because he didn't get a normal birthday party.

“It's the part, isn't it?” Tony looks at him, surprised, and Bucky laughs. “What? It wasn't that hard to guess.”

Tony sighs. “I just wish there were people my own age.”

“I feel you, little man. Hey, how about this? We stay for another half hour and then go to the kitchen to eat ice cream.”

Tony smiles. “Yes! It's not like anybody is going to miss me, anyway.” He didn't mean for it to sound sad, but it still does and Bucky gives him a look that clearly says that he knows exactly how that feels and if they weren't in public Tony would snuggle against him. At least he knows he wouldn't be sent away.

“You're fucking crazy, I hope you know that.”

“Pepper has been telling me that for years. Except with less swearing.”

“Not inside her head, I'm sure.”

Tony laughs and there's a scotch in his hand and Bucky is sitting across him, hearing all about his first flight with the Iron Man suit, and he can't believe that he has a superhero nickname. He's also remembering a situation like this, almost twenty years before and there is so much he can think about that. Mostly he wonders about how his life would have changed if he had made a different decision regarding his father's company.

He drinks the scotch in one go. Doesn't matter how much he ponders about it. The past is in the past, and it may haunt you and never let go, but it's not going to change.

“I think it's really brave what you did.”

“What? Fly in a suit made of metal? I will admit that there was a moment when I was worried, but-”

“No, I meant about the company.”

“Oh. That.”

Bucky doesn't laugh and says “yes, that” because he knows that if he does Tony will change the subject.

“I should have done it years ago. I was so fucking stupid. Did I honestly think that my weapons were only going to Americans? And even if that was true, they still killed so many people. Innocent people. That blood is on my hands.”

“In war-”

“No, don't say it. Don't try to excuse it. We tell ourselves that we do it for the country, for the freedom and all that bullshit because we don't want to face the simple reality: we kill people.”

Bucky doesn't answer him and Tony pours more scotch into his glass.

“They're dead and there's nothing I can do about that. But maybe, just maybe I can do something good now.” He gives a broken smile to Bucky. “That was always my dream, wasn't it?”

“Her name is Virginia Potts and she's a genius. Well, not like me, but she's still pretty smart. The best assistant ever, that's for sure.”

“Have you gotten her a nickname yet?”

“I call her Miss Potts but she doesn't seem to mind it.”

“I think that's because that's her actual name.”

“But it's boring. Rhodey says I shouldn't play games with her, or she'll leave and I'll be forced to find excuses to not show up to meetings by myself.”

“Rhodey's a smart man,” Bucky says and winces when Tony says “ahah”. Bucky knows that Rhodey prefers to be called James, and usually he manages it just fine but well, what can you say? Tony is a genius and getting a super soldier to call his best friend by his nickname is not that difficult.

“Rhodey is a party pooper.”

“I can't believe you just-”

“Yes, I did and I rocked it, let's face it. Anyway, I'm think Pepper.”

“Yes, 'cuz she's as hot as one.”

Bucky sighs. “Just don't come crying to me when she slaps you.”

“It's obvious you haven't met her. She's going to kick me in the balls.”

“Hm, maybe I should meet her. I think I'll like her.”

Tony isn't stupid. He has known for years that Bucky was Captain America's best friend. It just never seemed important. But now Captain America is back and Tony knows that he should tell JARVIS to stop recording their conversation, but he's also curious as fuck because he has never seen that look on Bucky's face. He's not just happy, he's... afraid.

“What happened?” Captain America, Steve, is asking and his voice sounds broken and it's a good thing Tony's not there or he would probably be making a joke and then Bucky would hit him. With the metal arm.

“Zola... he found me after I fell,” Bucky's voice is shaking and Tony has never seen him nervous, not even when Tony convinced him to let him make him a better arm. “He gave me a metal arm and then he froze me. Howard said he found a file called “Winter Soldier”. It appears Zola wanted to turn me into you, except better. He was going to take my memories. Make me nothing but a weapon.”

They're silent for some moments, with Bucky only continuing after Steve puts his hand on his shoulder.

“Howard wasn't just looking for you, he was also looking for HYDRA. He was one of SHIELD's builders, you know. Anyway, instead of HYDRA he found me. He defrost me and took me home.”

Again, silence and Tony doesn't know how they can handle it. Tony doesn't like silences. Silences mean ghosts whispering around with him being unable to stop them.

“Are you... are you happy?” Steve asks.

“I'm... I don't know. Howard... he gave me a new life. He introduced me to Tony, who's a great kid.”

“He looks older than you.”

“Yes, but I've known him since he was four.”

Silence again.

“Are you immortal?”

“I don't think so. Howard got a mutant to check me out a few years ago. He says I'll just age much more slow.”

They're silent once again and Tony finally decides to leave them alone. He doesn't know why he didn't do it in the first place. He guessed he was just curious to know why Bucky was the way he was.

Now he finally gets it. Losing Cap-, Steve, it was like losing a part of himself. Tony is a bit sad and angry that this means that Bucky won't be around as much but at the same time he's happy his old friend will finally get to be whole.

SPOILERS Any/Winter Soldier or Gen - Can We Talk About How the Soldier's Basically a Disney Princess

(Anonymous) 2014-04-24 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
And I don't even mean the parallels one could draw to Frozen - he's also got some Princess Aurora going for him - once upon a dream, not knowing his true identity, the sleep thing - and Princess Ariel, what with the silence, the non-human body part, and the rescuing handsome men from drowning.

I don't even know where I'm going with this. It could be a fairy tale AU or someone noticing the parallels and ribbing him about it, or anything. Just make it so.

Re: SPOILERS Any/Winter Soldier or Gen - Can We Talk About How the Soldier's Basically a Disney Prin

(Anonymous) 2014-05-25 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
So I have a few different ideas for this, but first I must ask you a question of great importance -- how do you feel about references to "Anastsia" and "The Swan Princess?" I know they're not Disney (and Bucky/Anastasia parallels are practically old hat on Tumblr), but they're so intertwined with the classic Disney canon in my brain. If you want strictly Disney princess references though, I can do that. :)

The way Hydra treated the winter soldier, I got the definite impression they regarded him as property, not a person. He's seriously messed up, and used to seriously messed up treatment. The avengers (+ Sam!) find him unconscious and bring him back to the tower, where he's kept in a cell for safety. The first thing he says when he wakes up: "Am I yours now?"

How do they (especially Steve) deal with a brainwashed assassin who thinks they own him? Can Steve get his best friend back? Gen or slash, I don't mind :)

While TWS is in Steve's apartment, he finds some of Steve's art. Maybe it's NSFW type arts of Bucky or Bucky and Steve together. TWS is intrigued. After meeting, Steve is intrigued as well. TWS goes back to Steve's apartment for whatever reason, and finds more 'fanart', this time NSFW drawings of The Soldier himself. Maybe he confronts Steve about it? Maybe he thinks it's hot? Where it goes from there is writers choice, I'd just love to see TWS coming across NSFW arts of himself as Bucky and TWS.

Steve's color blind and he mistakes War Machine for Iron Man

(Anonymous) 2014-04-25 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Color blindness is listed as one of Steve's medical ailments:

So, what if Erskin's Super Soldier Serum didn't take care of it too as it did with the other ailments? And it's not just a mild form, he's actually totally unable to tell a *any* color at all apart from the others.

Steve got to know Rhodey, but he didn't actually know about War Machine, or he did, but he didn't get to see the actual suit of armor, so one day he meet the man suited up and mistakes him for Tony. And says something very private/absolutely embarrassing/whatever you want. :D

(If pairing, I love Steve/Tony, Steve/Tony/Rhodey, teve/Tony/Bucky)

Winter Soldier is a lost child. h/c (maybe dub con)

(Anonymous) 2014-04-25 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
After seeing how lost Bucky looked during the "I knew him" scene,it made me wonder if he was like that after every mission. Childish and lost, with no direction.

So I'd like to see after he leaves a mission and heads to distraction, maybe his handlers/the soldiers hes surrounded by(like on the bridge) take care of him.

I'd like to see some of the soldiers---maybe they're fathers and take care of him? While some others want to take advantage of him befor hes returned to pierce.

Hell yes

Winter Soldier/any, non-con

(Anonymous) 2014-04-25 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
HYDRA assigns Winter Soldier a mission that involves seducing someone. Unfortunately they underestimated just how badly they've damaged his brain. When the target of his mission doesn't respond favorably to his attempts at seduction, his ingrained programming to complete the mission at all costs kicks in and he ends up raping the person.

Winter Soldier in the midst of a natural disaster

(Anonymous) 2014-04-25 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Post CA2, the Winter Soldier is wandering the country on his own, trying to understand what happened to him in his last encounter with Steve. He's in a major city when an unexpected natural disaster occurs; earthquake, hurricane, tornado... In the aftermath he finds himself automatically responding to people's cries for help. Without knowing why, he stays and keeps rescuing them, justifying each thing he does as a "mission". He's still there helping when Steve finds him.

Bonus points if the citizens he's been helping petition to have him made an Avenger because of what he did for them.

SPOILERS, The Winter Soldier, Punishment and Reward

(Anonymous) 2014-04-26 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Bucky is clearly under Hydra's complete control, and we see them being cruel to him, but what if, maybe earlier in his brainwashing when he was harder to control, or maybe continually, they also control him through rewards, like a trained animal.

What would they reward him with? Food treats? Baubles (even though he'd barely get any time with them before they froze him)? Praise? Maybe something even something they train him to view as a reward that actually isn't?? (Like a routine weapons upgrade is framed as a generous gift from Hydra.)

Whatever you want, I just find the idea of them using manipulation to control Bucky just as much as the torture, kinda like how Pierce tells him his work is a "gift to mankind."

Steve gets captured earlier on in the movie (maybe the mall or the elevator scene?) and taken in for interrogation. And midway through, Steve puts up a last desperate struggle and manages to knock the mask off...

Bucky's a prostitute. One night, someone goes too far - way too far. It's violent and sadistic and painful, and Bucky ends up terrified and begging for mercy.

The rapist can be an OC or an au character, anything works.

++ an emphasis on humiliation, name-calling, degradation, etc.
+++ Steve (maybe he's one of Bucky's regulars?) finds Bucky, bloody, bruised, crying, and broken, and helps him recover with fluffy everything

When they were first breaking down Bucky after he was captured, his hallucinations would take the form of Steve torturing him, all the while telling him what a failure he was, how Steve always hated him.

In his broken and confused mind, he never realised that it was a hallucination and thought it was really his friend torturing him and saying these things to him.
